Seven people lost their lives and around ten others were severely injured after an explosive device detonated on September 12 in Rutshuru territory, North Kivu.
According to reports from Radio Okapi, the tragedy occurred in Nyirubara, within the Jomba grouping, when children handled a device they had discovered.
Local civil society is calling on authorities and specialized services to map high-risk areas and step up preventive measures to prevent further casualties.
