Diplomatic efforts surrounding the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo remain in sharp focus following high-level engagement between U.S. President Donald Trump, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi.
Delegations from Kinshasa and Kigali have been meeting in Geneva to review implementation progress of the Washington peace framework. The discussions focus on key security requirements, including the neutralization of the FDLR militia and the adjustment of Rwanda’s defensive military posture along the border.
Despite these diplomatic tracks, conditions on the ground in North and South Kivu remain tense. The M23 movement continues to hold territorial positions, including key areas near Goma, maintaining administrative structures across regions under its control. At the same time, regional economic corridors and cross-border trade continue to face strain, impacting communities throughout the Great Lakes region.
