Title AFCON U20 Qualifiers: Nine CECAFA Nations Compete in Tanzania for Two Tickets

Nine East and Central African nations gathered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the CECAFA U20 Championship, competing for just two qualification spots at the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Host nation Tanzania welcomes eight regional rivals for the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers of the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament kicked off on September 15 at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam and runs through September 25.

Only the two finalists will secure qualification for the final tournament.

Group A

  • Tanzania (Hosts)

  • Rwanda

  • Ethiopia

Group B

  • Uganda

  • Sudan

  • Djibouti

Group C

  • South Sudan

  • Burundi

  • Kenya

The opening fixtures delivered high-energy action, with host nation Tanzania securing a decisive 3-0 victory against Rwanda in Group A, while Uganda and Burundi also picked up strong early results in their respective groups. With three groups of three teams, only the group leaders and the best runner-up will advance to the knockout rounds, leaving no margin for error.
